Horsley Witten Group is seeking an experienced Coastal/ Marine Scientist with 3 plus years of experience and with specific expertise in coastal and estuarine hydrodynamic modeling and shoreline restoration. The office from which this position is based is not pre-determined.

Responsibilities include, but may not be limited to:

  • Field data collection related to saltwater, freshwater, and estuarine wetlands, coastal dunes, banks, beaches and revetments, and associated resources
  • Analysis of coastal and estuarine conditions for erosive forces and methods and approaches for protection and restoration
  • Modeling of coastal impacts using Surface water Modeling System (SMS) and similar hydrodynamic models to quantify erosion forces and protection/restoration options
  • Support Design Team restoration plan production with design components and construction details
  • Prepare narrative and supporting calculations and figures for reports, permit applications, and/or assessments for coastal restoration projects
  • Present findings to clients, regulators and colleagues at public hearings, site visits, conferences, and meetings

Experience:

  • Practical application of modeling coastal hydrodynamic/wave runup conditions
  • Analysis and design of green infrastructure and living shoreline systems
  • Developing materials for permits related to regulated resources
  • Construction support services for implementation of coastal restoration measures
  • The position will require good communication skills and the ability to work independently or in a team environment. Importantly, the ideal candidate will thrive working on varied and diverse projects across several ecoregions and a range of land uses and settings.
