Horsley Witten Group currently has an opening for a GIS Technician/Analyst. The position will primarily support the cartographic and geospatial analysis needs of our planning, engineering, and science staff across a diverse project portfolio. The full-time position will report directly to HW’s GIS Manager and be based out of one of our MA, RI, or NH offices. We anticipate the opportunity to work a hybrid in-office/remote schedule once the new hire becomes accustomed to our workflow and can manage some flexibility.
Key Responsibilities:
- Take direction from and effectively communicate with HW’s GIS Manager and help to execute her vision for data management and GIS capabilities at HW.
- Gather, digitize, and manage spatial data from field surveys, satellite imagery, and existing databases (e.g., MassGIS).
- Create maps, charts, StoryMaps, or other visualizations of geographic data for reports, presentations, or online resources.
- Design and implement layout templates and symbology to ensure consistency and accuracy.
- Work with raster and vector based data, convert projection systems, and transfer files between GIS and AutoCAD.
- Perform GIS analyses and data interpretations needed to generate model inputs and information for reports and presentations (e.g., clipping layers, calculating geometries, summarizing statistics).
- Support fieldwork by publishing webmaps, creating data collection layers, and exporting collected data.
- Work collaboratively with engineers, landscape architects, scientists, and planners to meet diverse project needs under prescribed deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in geographic information systems or related field (geography, engineering, computer science)
- Between 1 and 5 years of experience in GIS data collection, management, and analysis related to community or environmental resources planning
- Demonstrated proficiency in GIS software such as ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, and QGIS
- Familiarity with ModelBuilder, SQL, Python, or other scripting software
- Team player with strong analytical skills with attention to detail
- Interest and ability to travel locally to conduct field work
- Willingness to attend technical trainings to expand skill sets.
