Horsley Witten Group currently has an opening for an Environmental Scientist who will primarily support our New England public and private sector clients.  The position will be based in our Sandwich, MA office with flexibility to work a hybrid in-office/remote schedule as appropriate. The ideal candidate will thrive while working on varied and diverse projects, welcome the opportunity to receive training and gain experience in other fields (as applicable to project work).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform field assessments; soil, groundwater, surface water, and sediment sampling; and hydrologic monitoring and related field work activities.
  • Provide construction oversight.
  • Perform literature research, analyze data, and summarize data in narrative, tabular, and graphic formats.
    Prepare well-written narratives or technical memoranda for reports and permit applications.
  • Work alongside experienced engineers, landscape architects, scientists, and planners to support project design teams.
  • Attend client meetings with government agencies, non-profit groups, and private firms, as well as attend public meetings.
  • Demonstrate good communication and time management skills and the ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Demonstrate interest and ability to travel locally, and occasionally further for work activities .

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, geology, or related discipline.
  • Between two and five years of professional experience.
  • Demonstrated strong writing skills.
  • Quantitative and analytical proficiency.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of hydrology, hydraulics, and related modeling software (e.g., HydroCAD, EPA SWMM, HEC-RAS, MODFLOW, or similar software).
  • Occupational Health and Safety (OSHA) 40-hour HAZWOPER training certification.
  • Certified Soil Evaluator or the ability and interest to become one.
  • Experience with water quality and flow monitoring equipment (e.g., level loggers, probes, auto samplers, and AV flow meters), sampling procedures, and quality assurance planning.
  • GIS and/or CAD experience.
  • Experience with wetlands resources delineation, habitat/ecology assessment, and permitting.
